Senclova Petit Hotel

their story

In the Spring of 2021, I had the exciting opportunity to work for a truly inspirational young couple of entrepreneurs, Alvaro and Alyssa, who were refurbishing a beautiful old home in the heart of Ciutadella, Menorca now known as the S´Enclova Petit Hotel.

It was an incredible partnership and one of those design jobs that was bittersweet to finish.

If you get the chance to visit this enchanting little hotel, from your first steps inside one can immediately appreciate the traditional Minorcan style from its rustic wooden beams, to its exposed stone walls, to its sky high stairwells.

However, when Alyssa and Álvaro first purchased this home, many of these features had yet to be uncovered.

The exposed walls were hidden behind layers of plaster and paint; the gorgeous wooden staircase hadn’t been refinished for decades; and the wood on the ceiling beams was covered extensively with coats of emulsion. The house was closed off, dark, and dreary.

Álvaro and Alyssa spent two years carefully restoring this house into the pristine architectural state that it is in today.

They opened up the layout and brought light in by tearing down walls, and restoring all the windows, walls, and doors in white.

Texture and authenticity was added through carefully selecting and restoring the original stone walls.

Álvaro hand-sanded all the natural wooden beams and four story wooden staircase himself! Now that's what I call unconditional love.

I joined this hotel restoration in its final phases of the renovation when the more aesthetic decisions needed to be made that would align with the overall decoration

That’s why when it came time to decorate this hotel we made sure to create a design that complemented the architecture instead of distracted the eye away from it.

~We chose raw furniture and textured lighting to transition the natural beauty of the building into our design aesthetic

~We went to local secondhand and antique shops because we wanted to support the local economy and decorate with items authentic to Menorca.

~We included many handmade decorative piece in order to celebrate the Minorcan tradition of excellency in artisanry.
